Organic Search vs Paid Search

Hi All,

In this article we will look through the differences between an organic and paid search and also the differences between them on various search engines.
What is an organic search?
An organic search is a list of natural search results, that will appear first on search engines, when your search query matches. Here the 'query' refers to the natural search keywords or phrases that a user searches on the web without any commercial or paid results like ads.
However, a paid search result will also appear on the search result page. The only difference between an organic and paid result is that they are naturally displayed as results when there is an exact match to user keywords.
Search engines like GoogleBingYahoo place paid results on the first page of the search results. However, the ads that appear will have a minor difference. For example, the ads appear in Google search engine will appear like this.

This is a sample search result page displayed for the search keyword 'online store'.
The ad result looks similar to an organic search result, but with a difference of yellow icon displayed as  'Ad'.
Other than this, everything looks similar. In google search engine, the paid search result also appears on the side of the search result page.
The above display is an example of a typical search result page that appears in Yahoo search engine. Here the word 'Ad' is displayed below the paid search result or after the paid result link.
Apart from this, there is an additional information of display, which shows the rating of the paid search result.
The following page displays 'ad' results and organic search result for the search keyword 'online store' on the Bing search engine.
When we look at the search results, we can see many differences between a paid and an organic search result. We can see the 'Ad' keyword, before the start of the ad link.
Additionally, we can view the number of followers (Twitter) that follows that commercial brand.
We can also view the overall rating information, that is represented visually, and also the number of people involved in that review.
These are some of the differences between an organic and paid search result in various search engines.
Nowadays, both an organic and paid search results look similar. Hence, common people find them on their search results and proceed for purchase. It is however, to be noted that the organic searches are the results that are more relevant to users' search. A paid ad can have or may seem to get displayed even for an irrelevant search keyword. This is because of the payment that has been provided to the particular search engine. However, search engines are looking to improve user experience by placing ads based on accurate search keywords.
